The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is dedicated to driving future storage industry standards, best practices, and education. It is focused on easing end-user challenges through high-level knowledge exchange, thought leadership, and promotion of storage standards.
EMC has been a leader in defining and adopting the SNIA Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S). EMC’s storage platforms and storage management offerings feature SMI-S passing the SNIA Conformance Test Program SMI-S suite.
SNIA applies CIM and WBEM technologies for the management of heterogeneous networked storage environments. As well, the organization has defined the SMI-S based on CIM and WBEM for monitoring and controlling physical storage, configuring and provisioning storage within a SAN, and copying and protecting data via mirrors and snapshots. SNIA has advanced SMI-S through INCITS (ANSI) and ISO for accreditation.
EMC embraces the SNIA’s SMI-S by implementing the specification into its products. The company has improved the interoperability of its offerings by passing SNIA’s SMI-S Conformance Test Program suites and through leadership in the SMI-lab plugfest program. To advance and enhance specifications - and to improve consistent interpretation and implementation - EMC also makes technical contributions to: the SNIA Technical Work Groups, SMI Committee, SMI Technical Steering Committee, and the SMI-lab Steering Committee. The company has been represented on the technical team coordinating the SNIA CIM/WBEM requirements with the DMTF. EMC also serves on the SNIA Technical Council and currently serves the SNIA Board of Directors in the capacity as Treasurer. In the past EMC has also chaired the SNIA Board of Directors.

The EMC SMI-S Provider provides partners with easier and faster solution development that ultimately ensures interoperability and simplified management of customers' SAN environments.
Click here for a list of the EMC SMI-S providers that have passed a version of the SNIA CTP tests. For each version of the provider that has passed it lists the SMI-S profiles the EMC provider was able to certify against for that particular SNIA CTP release. It also lists the Symmetrix and CLARiiON array families that are covered by each SNIA CTP certification for that release.

EMC SMI-S Provider: Licensing, Packaging, and Distribution
The EMC SMI-S provider is available for download from Powerlink, EMC’s customer and partner portal, free of charge for customers and to partners who have joined the Developer program. A Software Developer Kit (SDK) will be provided through the Developers program. The SDK contains the Provider as well as the Release Notes including installation and set up procedures, and a Programmer’s Reference Guide.
