Best Practices for Developing Documentum Based Offerings
The Application Developer Program team is often asked by the developer community (partners and customers) about best practices for designing and developing on our platform. Partners also want to know how they can package their offerings into more shrink wrapped products that are easy to deploy at customers’ sites. To address this need, we have initiated this document about best practices while designing, developing, and packaging EMC Documentum based offerings.

WDK Component Development Guidelines
Developer Program Exclusive!
Documentum engineers have gained considerable experience over the years developing
reusable components for our client applications. In an effort to capture lessons learned
from this experience, several key engineers collaborated to produce a collection of best
practices and guidelines for WDK component development. These are now used
internally by all Documentum engineers when developing and unit testing components.
We are pleased to make this component development guide available to our developer
community. Please remember that the goal is to facilitate component reuse, extendibility,
and quality; they are not intended to be an exhaustive list of requirements.

- Pervasive content management
- Complete content lifecycle

Documentum Portlets 4.5 for Sun ONE Portal Server 6.0
"Documentum Portlets" is a web-based application that enables Documentum functionality to be integrated into enterprise business portals. These services are built upon the WDK framework and packaged as a set of components or "portlets" that are configured, adapted, and exposed through a portal framework. The portlets include the following component functions:
- Cabinets: displays folders and their contents; allows user to navigate, check in/check out, contribute objects, update versions, etc.
- My Documents: displays objects recently created/revised/checked out; user can view object format and locked/checked out status, etc.
- My Folder: displays default user folders and content objects within these folders.
- My Workarea: lists the content objects that a user has checked out, and allows the user to view or edit the content.
- Inbox: access point from where users can forward, reject and dismiss workflow tasks, view notifications, etc.
- My Subscriptions: lists content and folders to which a portal user is subscribed.
- My Workflows: displays a list of active workflows and actions that can be taken on them.
- Search: helps users quickly locate content with a sophisticated, single-field search combining full-text and content attribute criteria.
The zip file contains the following files,
| File Name | Description |
| License.txt | The Documentum license agreement, please read this before installing the portlets. |
| installing_documentum_portlets_bea_solaris.pdf | The Documentum portlets installation guide for BEA Weblogic app server with Solaris. |
